    Default The Royal Bath #3.

Some months ago I posted several images of this Royal Tern bathing on a sandbar in San Carlos Bay. I had waded out to get the setting sun at my back, and came away with a lot of frames of him in nice light. In view of this month's theme, I went back into the files and worked up another frame. From Bunche Beach in February.

    D500, 500f4 _ 1.4 TC, ISO 800, 1/3200s @ f/7.1 manual; Gitzo and Mongoose. Almost full-frame.

Nice light with a good low angle. All the water drops add some interest as well.

Bill nice shot, you can really see the distinct bill of the Royal here, nice details and light.
Maybe a pano crop would be better?

Nice one Bill -- love the splashing water, light, catchlight, and waves breaking in the BG. Not sure if just me, but I feel the image could use a slight CW rotation.TFS

Great light on this bathing beauty, Bill. Nicely caught water droplets filling most of the frame. Like the deep rich blues of the sea.

Hi Bill, sweet light here, and a great behavioural image for the month's theme. I like the feather detail, sharp, and the flying droplets add to the behaviour. Comp wise, I would take a bit off the bottom.

    Great light and great splash.
Perfect HA and I like the wavelet.
I like your choice of comp but can certainly see a version as a pano,

Thank you all. I thought about a pano comp, but didn't want to cut off too many of the water drops. A bit off the bottom probably would help. Alex, I did rotate this a little; I think this is about right, to my eye.
