    1/2500, f/8, Auto ISO 1100, +1.0, Manual.
    Handheld, 8.15am sunny morning.
Capture NX-D then into photoshop for cropping and slight adjustments. Including noise removal (background then subject), resizing then sharpening.
Removed some out of focus branches in the background.
Lennox Head, New South Wales, Australia.
After waiting some time the lorikeet flew off the branch.
    Thanks for looking - Peter.

Nice looking bird and great looking flight pose. The colors, HA and exposure look beautiful too. I think the original is sharp but the downsized version needs some more sharpening for the web.
Here I highlighted the bird, then added sharpening to whole bird, then I added a bit more sharpening to only to the head.
Looks like critical focus was on the wing so the head is not to far out of focus but a little extra to only the head sometimes makes a difference.
    Well captured

Great bird with a great wing position.
The head is not quite tack sharp and David's repost has helped this.
Why did you do NR on the bird? That is usually not a good thing as it smooths out and causes loss of details in the feathers. This may have also caused a bit more blurriness on the head.
Love your Australian birds so keep them coming!

Beautiful frame of a flying parrot. Colors, pose and wing position are all great. Sharpness issue fixed with the re post. This is a really nice in flight shot.

Hi Peter, excellent flight pose, and great that the head is separated from the far wing. Comp wise, I would maybe take a bit off the top. I like what Dave has done with the sharpening.

Hi Gail. Thank you for your valuable input I appreciate it very much.
Regarding noise removal on the subject (bird) I thought that it was part of a digital workflow from my latest readings. In the past I have not done this.
(In this case, the rainbow lorikeet capture was ISO 1100)
So may I ask is noise removal on the subject ever advisable and under what circumstances?
I will post more Australian birds so glad you like them.
    Peter.

    Hi Stu,
Thank's very much for your composition tip and your comments. I will certainly give it a try.
I will also take Gail's and Davids tips and give the workflow another go, including no noise removal on the bird and a better sharpening procedure for display on the web. Thanks all!

Thank's and here is another go. With noise reduction on background only and sharpening to mainly the head and upper body.
    Slightly different crop.
