The interaction is good, and timing excellent on the exchange of food. Sharp where it counts, and the swallows are well exposed. Open wings of the adult makes for a nice pose. The nest box is rather bland though, quite bright too which attracts a lot of attention to it. The clipped tail is problematic too, if you have more room below I'd add some back, if not, then I'd back up a bit to make sure there is enough room all around to include incoming action poses.

Ditto Dan and you did well considering the super-bright light. It would be hard to imagine an uglier nest box :(

Thank you so much Artie and Daniel for your feedback... Appreciate it, and agree with it all... In terms of comp, I was unfortunately a bit too close but it was a bad spot and I didn't have a lot of room to move back while keeping the same angle. In terms of the nest box, I agree it is probably the ugliest one could find :). This was shot at San Joaquin Wildlife Reserve in Irvine. I guess neither the management there, not the swallows themselves care much about the elegance of theses nest boxes :) San Joaquin is very close to where I work and I try to stop by there whenever I get a chance either at lunch time or later in the afternoon before I head back home.

I like the feeding interaction but everything else worked against you here, it does not work IMO
