    Hi There

Shot of Barn Owl "Avon" taken at HCT as she approaches the falconers glove. When the sun is out getting a good exposure for the whites is a great challenge and more often that not they are starting to get too hot, but I am also trying to get some detail in the eyes. I could have used a touch of fill flash, but to be honest I prefer shots without flash if I possibly can.

It does have a nice dark background...so it should pass the "Lana test"...:)

    Hi John,

What a lovely looking owl and photograph. The light looks a little harsh but I'm sure they facility don't open at sunrise LOL :) I have to agree with your own critique about fill but a fascinating subject to photograph.

    What does HCT stand for?

    Thank you for sharing!

    Hi Maxis

Its stands for "The Hawk Conservancy Trust" its a Bird of prey conservation and rehabilitation centre here in the UK and its were I shoot the majority of my images. they do several flying displays each day so you are guaranteed to get birds in flight, and its a great place to practice your BIF skills.

Oh yeah....that BG is super. The light was harsh......and certainly bright compared to most of your other images. Those dark eyes are really hard to pull detail from.....especially with the coloration of the owl. Fill flash might help some but I think you just have to accept them for what they are....dark. An excellent wingspread image and well composed. Those Barn Owls are really a thing of beauty.
