Hi James, I like the bird placement in frame, but for my taste, I prefer a more defused background. Try using a wider aperture like f/5.6 or bigger depending on lens used. I would suggest on cloning out that yellow leaf to the right of the bird's head. and a little selective sharpening on the eye...
agree with gus!! open up wide and try to blur the bg as much as possible. one thing i have learned here is watch your bg!!! it is just about as important as the subject itself. one thing you can do is defocus the camera after framing your subject and that will give you a good idea as to what it is going to look like!!
Hi James Good looking bird !!! Just the bg and not much you could do about it .... except the aperture !!!
When the bg is a problem do not make it worse by stopping down, do go at it wide open. Very seldom you will be stopping down so much. As presented would clone out the prominent leaf by the face and do some softening in the bg !! Will look great !!!
I agree with all the above regarding opening up. You will also be getting the additional advantage of a fast shutter speed up from 1/250 ... as I believe the bird may have moved slightly on you, possibly causing the bird to be slightly soft? Good placement with room for the bird to look out.
