They may be affectionately known as the 'Clowns', but I just love photographing these guys. They are certainly fun and full of character.

Lovely work, Steve. The out of focus wings frame the head wonderfully, the pano crop goes with the flow of the image. Techs spot on as always. The image makes me wish I was closer to the ones in this country, about 1800 miles north of me. Thank you for sharing.

Killer details and I like the BG and setting. I'm hoping to photograph these birds this summer if I end up in the UK for work. My only nit is a minor one -- I wish the wingtip wasn't clipped ever so slightly but not a deal breaker by any means as the attention is still on the head. Exposure looks great. TFS

Alex, when (dates) and where, north England, Wales or Scotland?

Correct, right on the edge, I could extend and make up the wing, but...

Steve, not entirely sure on dates yet but if it happens it would probably be around July 10-20 or so (plus or minus a couple days). I would be in Cambridge for the work itself but no problem taking a couple extra days and going to North England or Scotland from London

Forget Scotland, it's too far, Farnes is your best bet. Drop me a PM and I will tell you where to go and who to book with in terms of a boat.

I can only agree with what's been said already - great timing and framing and the exposure is spot on.
