    Default Burrowing Owl Fledgling...

    Attached Images Attached Images

It was evening on Marco Island, Florida. I was capturing images Burrowing Owl chicks and parents when this fledgling leapt into the air testing it's wings. I guess in hindsight I wish I had more shutter speed and depth of field but the sun had dropped behind the houses and darkness was beginning to set it. Comments and critique welcomed and appreciated. Thank you for viewing.

Post processed in Lightroom CC and Photoshop CC 2017, removed some black nylon rope and a plastic post surrounding the owls burrow area in the lower right of the frame
    Cropped for composition and presentation

Wonderful flight pose, Joe. I agree with your self-critique, butyou did well with settings given the low light. But the D500 can handle much higher ISO which could have helped.

I suppose more SS to better freeze the wing tips (plus more is always better with action), but the effect is OK with me here. I am also fine with the dof. Nice and sharp on the face as posted. A tad more room at right, if you have it, would be good. Nice frame Joe!

Nice shot of this guy. Bird looks good as does the background. I'm quite envious as I have seen this species many times but never had the chance to photograph them.

    Very nice Joe.
    Great BG and good light.
I like the little bit of wing blur.
