A nice stare from the bear and to my eyes the sharpening looks spot on. A bit of a shame about th fallen log blocking the feet, but not a deal breaker. Maybe a bit more NR to the BG?

Hi Jon always great to encounter bears , even if sitting in a hide .
The bear gave you a nice stare and a classy pose ....love it. I like the finish boreal forest setting , not much you can do about the logs so not an issue for me .
Overall i think the image does look lifted in the darker and mid tones , for my eyes . How about the cyan and blue in the lighter tones ......? If this was mine i would apply more NR to the BG .....even in the bears coat is noise visibly present !
Does the image need a slight rotation .......

    Hello Jon,

Superb pose from this bear and I love the eye contact!

I tend to agree with comments above regarding the need for some NR in the BG. Perhaps a bit more SS would have been beneficial to this frame as the bear was moving? Not suggesting you should have upped the ISO, just thinking you could have gone down to F4.

Overall a well composed frame and I especially like the inclusion of environment, BTW I do not mind those logs one bit:)

    Warmest regards,
    Gabriela Plesea

Is this froma hide in Finland Jon ,I've recently been reading hence my curiosity

Great image what can I say following the above comments, the bird poop is really eye catching, but beyond that everything works ,the logs should be there I feel the detail is great and iso 5000 is still amazing to me. Great strength to the stance jon and that stare makes me shivver.

Hi Jon - RP looks better and I too like the visible claw and the head on pose with a bit of habitat. I'll be posting some Alaskan brown bears soon and it's interesting to see the differences.

Hey Jon looks better than OP ...your on the right way from my POV .
Still think this does look somehow lifted ....try to add a bit more depth to the mid and 3/4 tones through tk masks ....
    Just my thought .

Take a look a Neat Image ....from my POV the better piece of software ....and even more important , NIK and DFine is at its end . As Google stopped the support and developing ....sooner or later you will loose the ability to use it .

    Cheers Andreas

Thanks Rachel and Andreas. I did use Neat Image quite few years ago but I ended up buying Topaz, will take another look.
