I thought I would post this image for Lance because he was sitting next to me when it was taken. One of the younger generation of male lions at Tswalu in the Kalahari.

Hi Rachel -- Looks lovely ! That eye contact makes this for me and as usual you have those fine details which takes the IQ top notch. Nice portrait of this beautiful animal. Just slightly tight at the top for my liking .

    TFS !

    Hello Rachel,

Lovely young lion, the remains of blood in his mane and serious stare make him appear less innocent than he probably was at the time...

I like the image as presented. Just for interest sake I tried a tight vertical crop and IMO it works as well. Lots of detail here, golden light, sharpness is there from nose to ears. Good thinking on the techs! Those flies must be such a nuisance, I always wonder how lions put up with them - shaking one's head does not help as they fly off and come back again.

A pleasure to view this frame, thank you so much for sharing. I like the pose you captured. As you already know, those Kalahari lions are my favourite subjects to photograph. Their penetrating looks give an impression of alertness and contained energy, it is as if they thrive on the harsh light and heat of this environment. Ferocious perhaps yet so tolerant of humans, don't you think? I guess my enthusiasm for the species will never fade and I shall keep trying to portray them, irrespective of whether I have any talent for doing so

    Warmest regards,
    Gabriela Plesea

Thanks Lance, Haseeb, Dumay and Gabriela. I'm glad you like this one. Gabriela, I shot some in portrait orientation. I'll share one soon. Dumay, great to see you back.

    Thanks again,
    Rachel

Rachel already mentioned I know but the texture and detail on the fur of this magnificent beast is brilliant ,also the lovely soft look of the eyes all adds to a great looking image.

Well executed Rachel, if you have it then a sliver more above or a tad less on the LHS.

Only by extending the canvas and using content aware fill which I prefer not to do. This is full frame as posted ("ff").
