I captured this image at the rookery in Gatorland, Orlando, Florida. The day was cloudy, heavy overcast, drizzle, and spitting rain, no worry about the whites clipping. Comments and critique welcomed and appreciated. Thank you for viewing.

I really like this shot because it has a soft painted feeling to it. Like a water color but the eye is just drawn to those spiky feathers at the tops of the heads. The tone is very nice as well set by the strong NR needed for this shot. But it all works for me.

Hi Joe, Kudos in pushing the ISO, well done and the result look great. My only thought would be is to bring some more depth back into the foliage that frames the subjects. Most of it is just adjusting colour, but then some Midtone and Clarity etc for some 'tonal' value. Hope it helps.

Isaac why do you think a strong amount of NR is required at ISO 9000 and if it was, then it may have masked a lot of the detail within the image unless applied separately, I would guess not much? Can't comment on the Nikon, but the 1DX's with good exposure, not a huge amount of NR is require I have found at equivalent or higher ranges (i.e. 16 - 25k ISO).

We have seen very impressive high ISO performance out of the D500 from Bill and Joe and I'd love for Canon to make a crop sensor with this kind of performance. This shot has a water color like feel to me which I would assume was from aggressive NR. In this case I think it works really well and I like the effect.

Beautiful Image. Nice to see that you have pushed D500 to 9000 and it still holds good.

Can you share the histogram for the RAW file ?

    Hi Joe,

Just a great shot of these two. Love the IQ, habitat, and the inquisitive looks on their faces.

Hi Krishna, thank you for viewing and commenting, very much appreciated. Here is a screen capture of the image and histogram as imported into Lightroom from the camera.

Kudos on pushing your ISO, Joe. It's not easy to force oneself to do that and here is an instance it obviously paid off. I do think Steve did a good job on the RP of a special image showcasing the companionship of these siblings. In a perfect world I'd rather not see the white birds in the BG but they are not the focus here.

Really, really nice Joe. ISO 9000? Wow! I've never pushed my D500 even close to that, but I won't be afraid anymore. Thank you for sharing.

No one should be afraid Juan, just get the Exposure right and avoid Darks & Shadows. Check this thread out too..
