I realize that some of you have bodies that can deal with higher ISOs than this, but considering the price point and the fact that many internet pundits deem the 7DII unusable at ISOs higher than 400-800, I am quite pleased with the performance at ISO 3200. Here's one of four Tennessee Warblers that did their best to rid of my apple trees of small worms trying to get to the eventual fruits...
Canon 7DII + 500mm f/4 II + 1.4TC III, manual exposure, evaluative metering, 1/320s., f/5.6, ISO 3200, natural light, handheld, ~ 80% FF, minor eye work, NR to the BG and a 1/3 dose to the subject.
IQ looks pretty good to my eyes. Details on the bird and in focus flowers / leaves all look nice, as do the soft colors throughout. I like the perch a lot. In an ideal world I guess that leave wouldn't be touching the bird but I don't mind it. TFS
Image quality looks very good for that ISO. I really like that you are pushing the limits of the 7d2. I have not picked it up since getting the 1dx but this goes to show that I probably wasn't pushing it to its full potential. Perhaps due to the high ISO I think the image is a little flat and if mine I would deepen the midtones a bit ad maybe add a bit of saturation.
