Here's another frame of a Caspian Tern from Metzger Marsh last week. This one has a slightly better far wing position (although not fully raised). Another frame has the far wing full-up but the near wing is just slightly lower, casting a shadow on the body. (I thought about compositing the wings, but decided against it.) And the fish is headed the wrong way. Sometimes you just can't win.
Hi Bill -- agree with your self critique regarding the far wing position but I really like this. Great detail, catchlight, and prey item. I don't mind the fish going the wrong way as you can still see the eye and the fish is still in the frame. I'd be happy to have this shot. TFS
Really nice shot Bill. Great detail. Per your camera settings seems that you have abundant amount of light and there's not hard shadows. I'd also be happy to have this shot. Well done. TFS.
Definitely one of my favorite Terns to photograph. They are capable of all of catching very big fish and they are very diverse hunters. Nice pose and details and the Fish is a bonus. Just looked at your last post and I do like that one better. Well done either way, Not easy to get.
