This was taken today as the male snail kite was protecting the nest. Researchers came to the nest sight today to check on the number of eggs in the nest and the other nests in the area. It was amazing to watch as all the other snail kites in the vicinity came as well so the skys were busy with flight activity.

Great picture, nice exposure and accurate colors. Love the wing position.
I only wish for a little more head turn... but, look who is talking the one with not a single decent flying shots yet. ;)
Like everything about it except the lack of eye contact Judy. This photo suffers from the same problem my Northern Harrier photo from a couple of days ago did. Lots of good stuff, but no eye contact.
Judy- I'm really enjoying the series of Snail Kites posted recently and this image is one of the reasons! The eye contact mentioned by others "comes with the territory" with an image of a bird banking away from you so I'm fine with it. Love the colour of the light, composition and the talons showing behind the tail.
Great Image!! With the bird flying away, it provides a different look than most flight photos--and shows a lot of ffeather detail that other shots don't. His head is turned far enough that you can see the eye, so I've got no problem with the head angle!! Obviously the bird needs to be looking where it is going.
