Snazzy boy

A male royal tern in St. Petersburg, FL. The whites come in right at 240/240/240 at the absolute whitest, at the bottom center of the bird's breast (too bright still?). Luckily this bird was too preoccupied vying for attention from the passing females than to pay much attention to the paparazzi.

7d mkII, 500mm f/4 IS, 1/1200 @ f/8, ISO 400.

Jake, your whites look fine to me, a bit of your blacks are too solid though. Nice expression.

lovely pose, exposure and details, the soft light and BG work well here. I would also raise the shadows just a bit (less than 1/3 stop) well done
