This image was captured the other day at a local lake. It was late afternoon and overcast. Several years ago at the same location I was lucky enough to see and photograph one of these swallows, albeit at a great distance, I was happy at that time for it was a lifer. This time there were about 5 NRWS skimming the surface of the lake for insects. When I noticed one fly in and land on a railing not far from me. C&C welcome.

Well done Geoffrey, I don't think I have seen a photograph of a swallow so close as this. Nice looking detail and I like the look back pose. The BG colour fits well. Its good that you had time to change camera settings.

Hey Geoffrey, neat portrait. A bird I am not familiar with. Good feather detail, complimentary background, all works for me. Thank you for sharing.

I would suggest darkening the pupil and lightening the iris to make the eye pop a bit. TFS

Hi Geoffrey, good look back pose, and well done on capturing one close by. With regards to the comp, I feel its in between, as its more than a portrait shot, but less not a full bodied shot - so I would have gone for one or the other.
