    Default Mandarin Duck with reflection

Name: Mandarin Duck FB 800 px -4360.jpg
Views: 105
Size: 329.8 KB

Hi again! I was on the search for a Mandarin Duck so I could actually see one in person. Following many guidelines, I know I got a bit too low to get eye level which resulted in less of a bottom space than desired. No way to correct this one, but I'm happy with the result as is. As usual, feedback appreciated!

the image is too small for critique Melissa, you need to post 1200 pixels on the long side

I agree with Arash, a larger picture would make it easier to critique. With regards to what is posted, I think a few things would make this stronger.

Don't think you have enough room in the back of the bird. I would add some room there so it is not so tight.
Photo and bird has a strong yellow cast that needs to be removed.
With regards to the spacing at the bottom of the frame there are many ways to fix this quite easily in Photoshop. One easy way is to go to crop on the left. Use the up arrow and bring the bird higher in the frame until the spacing below is where you want it. Make sure the content aware box is checked at the top of the page and hit crop again. Should fix you up in no time. I would really recommend picking up one of Artie and Arash's guides about digitial basics if you need help with this and many other types of things in PS. They are great guides and will take your photos up quite a few levels once you master the techniques.

Thank you Isaac. I need to learn how to crop in PS. At this point, I've only used Lightroom. Where do I find those guides you mentioned? I just looked at the 1200 px. photo I just posted, and obviously the tail is not shown in that photo.

Since Arash responded on this and he wrote or cowrote some/all of them (sorry but not really sure) hopefully he can recommend which one or few would be best. In the mean time, here is the link to the page where you can shop the many guides they have to offer.

On a side note it looks like your sensor or lens is quite dirty as well. I'd work on getting that cleaned.

I took your larger post and did the following in PS. Took maybe 2 or 3 minutes.

Moved the bird up and to the left in the frame so it now has more room below and to the right.
Removed the strong green/yellow cast to the shot
Added a bit more details to the bird
Applied Noise reduction to the background
Cloned out a few of the worst sensor dirt marks.
It moved your signature over so ignore that part.

Not trying to spend your money, but we spend so much money on gear and time in the field, that I consider it money extremely well spent on a few guides that really help you hone your processing skills. Makes a huge difference on the final outcome.

Also when you post a picture it really helps to list the gear used and settings so people can figure out what suggestions to make.
