I appreciate you allowing me to join this site. I am new at photography and all critiques are welcomed. I want to learn how to improve in photography and post processing. Thank You all. I posted earlier this morning and not sure I did the posting correctly, couldn't find the post. If I double posted please forgive me. I will remove the previous one (if it shows up) once I return to this site after work.

This is a great egret, cattle egret, cormorant rookery. It's a bit overcrowded for the liking of these two.

Hello Barbara, welcome to the forum. I will do my best to help as will others. There are few things good in this shot and a few bad.
The good • action and sharpness.
The bad • harsh light, composition and the birds heads are hidden or in shadows.
    • Morning and afternoon light are the best for shooting.
    • Always have more room in the direction the bird is moving or looking.
    • A bit more DOF would have helped also along with a higher SS.

Looking forward to seeing more and hopefully be helpful.

    -Tim

You already have comments from two of the top people in avian photography and I wouldn't presume to try to add much. I do want to say, though, I'm impressed by your first posting (or second). It's interesting. I like the action. You have a very active background, but it is dark and blurred enough that it doesn't fight your subject. IMHO. I'm eager to see more from you.
