Keel-billed Toucan
Thought I'd get one more colorful bird into the March theme, this time a Keel-billed Toucan from my most recent Costa Rica workshop. In addition to the wonderful color in the bill, I like the flash of red in the rump.

What a great look at this iconic bird. Fabulous colors, great pose and perch, nice exposure on the blacks. Top of the bill, and parts of the neck, are a bit hot.

Such comical looking birds, like evolution got a bit confused for this lot. Top presentation and I have to disagree with Bill about the hot areas as they look OK to me.

Doug:
Lovely, with a well scaled and interesting perch, nice head angle, soft background.
The areas Bill mentioned do appear a bit on the bright side, but very very close. I have seen issues with this bird before, in exactly the same areas. The histogram looks good in Lightroom CC, but if I use the Mac digital color meter app, it does appear to be between 250-253 in some of those areas. I have not done a rigorous evaluation of the relative accuracy of these two measurements, so perhaps it is the test and not the bird!
Cheers
Randy

ColorPic is showing me 253 - 255 along the top part of the yellow bill, and 255 in the yellow neck patch near the bottom. But there again, I don't know how accurate it is.

The top of the bill is definitely a problem area on toucans, even under overcast skies.

Great frame like the pose of the bird and that nice green background.

Beautiful image Doug, love these birds and the perch and BG here are awesome!

Perch, pose and background are just great. Agree that maybe toning down those areas could improve an already excellent image.

Whats not to like. Lovely colours throughout the image. Bird, perch and BG all super.

They already are toned down.

Here's an animated GIF showing what I did with the brights. Forgive the dithering- it's a GIF with only 256 colors.
