We had some great weather over the weekend, so my wife and headed north to a mountain range I know, where I had a good chance for Red Grouse. It was a great day, laying in the heather, photographing grouse in 18 degrees of heat, even though there was some snow laying around.

nice shot William, like the soft light and the habitat but agree with Loran it would be much better with the feet visible

Hi Will, just popped up the the Moors the other day, so nice to see something further north. Personally I would have gone for more DoF and a tad more SS, and with the 500 you will still have the diffuse backdrop you already have. If you have a bit more below and to the LHS I think it would help, I just find it a fraction tight, but just my take. Did you experience any heat haze in the shots, I did which was very annoying.

We all strive for that for sure, but unless these guys are on a mound or wall, something solid, the legs and lower part of the body often sink into the heather very easily and so you loose the legs.

Thanks guys. Hi Steve, thanks for the tips. I never had any bother at Glen Quaich with the heat haze. I did manage a few showing the legs, whilst on a mound, but the BG wasn't the best. I will work them.

    Cheers
