Wood Duck Drake

A tip led us to this Pennsylvania creek at sunrise in early November. By the time a small raft of Wood Ducks drifted into a good position, the sun was up, but this section of the creek was still in the shade of the forested hillside on the left. It was backlit, however, from sunlight reflected off some trees in late fall foliage, further downstream, creating a nice setting for this handsome drake. I tried some shots with fill flash, but I liked this one better with high ISO and no flash.

D7200, 500f4 + 1.4 TC, ISO 2500, 1/500s @ f/6.3 manual.

What a morning light there was with the autumn foliage reflected in the creek surrounding this beauty. Like the low POV, great eye contact, and the few droplets of water on his feathers. Well done.

Handsome drake indeed. Agree with Geoffrey.

Because it was shot in the shade, it is quite cool color temperature wise, and you could try warming it just a bit. I raised in +10 on the temp slider in LR, and thought it was a nice option.

Lovely colors in the water and beautiful duck, I did notice the cool temp aswell, warming it up helped.
