    Default Blue-billed Heron

    First time poster.

From a recent trip to Costa Rica. Had to wait forever for this guy to take flight. A few shots in several positions but I liked the down positions highlighting of his protruding face/bill. Anyhow, TIA for feedback.

Welcome to BPN Jay!! Pretty cool species in neat habitat. The pose is very good with the body angling towards us and wingtips touching. The IQ is not quite what it should be though - subject is lacking fine detail, and looking like a big crop?

Don't forget to include exif data so we may be better able to offer suggestions/critique.

As for settings - it was not a very bright setting so I had to run my ISO up (well, that's all I know to do at this point... no pod with me)... so, ISO 3200, 1/1600s, f5.6, 420mm

Welcome. I agree with all that Daniel has said. Also just a correction, the birds name is a Boat-billed Heron, not Blue-billed.

Ah yes, Boat-billed is what I meant to put. I've made this naming mistake several times - for some ODD reason. Thanks.
