From a feeder setup earlier this winter. There were about 100 of these guys waiting for their turn the seeds, quite the flutter of activity!

Canon 7DII + 500mm f/4 II, manual exposure, evaluative metering, 1/400s., f/5.6, ISO 1600, natural light (perch set low to the ground with snow below acting as a reflector), handheld, small crop for comp, eye work, minor bill clean up.

Sweet pose and beautiful light, with help from the snow. I'm liking the lichen, but there is almost too much of it on the right.

    Daniel:

A lovely setup, great detail in the delicate perch. Nice fill reflector you had there! I really do love to shoot in the winter for that reason.

I like the balance of masses in the image, but do agree with Bill, that the clump on the far right perhaps is big enough, and light enough that it draws the eye a bit more than I would desire. I could see a sliver more crop, or toning down the luminosity of the patch just a bit.

    Cheers

    Randy

Daniel - I tried a version with the crop from right , just to the right of the d in your last name, and thought it shifted the attention nicely onto the bird. Small thing, but seemed to help to my eyes.
