This was the first time I had witnessed the courtship display. I appreciate the background is less than ideal but it was a case of it being my first opportunity to capture the behaviour. I returned the following day but no luck. I will go back again to see what I can capture. I would normally have used a faster shutter speed but I knew the crop would be significant so I didn't want to raise the ISO to much, hence 1/800sec.

A bird I am not familiar with... interesting behavior. Thank you for sharing, Jonathan.

Nice one Jon. These birds are usually difficult because of the shaded areas they occupy. Love the FG blending in with the bird. Maybe tone the BG down a wee bit.

Well done Jon and I like the fact the subject is off set. There used to be quite a few on a stretch of water near a well known drinking water, but I think they may have gone due to disturbance by Dog walkers. The hike back upto the car park was like the Hovis ad.

    Hope you get more.

I think you are referring to Peak District(?) This was at a place called Loggerheads in North Wales, same problems with dog walkers and wet dogs coming to have a sniff whilst I am trying to take pics!
