Default Snowy owl in first light

This image is from 2012, during the snowy owl mass migration to Ocean shores, WA. It was taken with the 1D4 and the original 500 f/4 IS. I went back and processed this one with the latest DPP. At the time I had a 27" monitor and my standard output size was only 1600 pixels. Now I usually save at 3000 pixels to get a descent size on my 4K NEC. The 1D4 is history but with the latest DPP and the Neat Image I got a pretty good quality file. Here is the web presentation, hope you like it

A beautiful bird and a spectacular image, Arash. The whole tonality of this one is really appealing, and I think the soft, late light has actually helped it work. Also a good example of the wide-open optical quality of the EF 500. It is great too that the software keeps evolving and getting better all the time, which can give us the opportunity to further improve an existing image.

    Cheers, David

Lovely image Arash, the stare and IQ is just great. Love the catchlights as well. I'm wondering if there is a bit of a blue cast on the perch and a tiny bit on the back of the owl? It could very easily by my screen though. Thanks for sharing this!

The soft textures in the plumage are very well captured.
Like Alex I also sense a bit of magenta on the perch but I know sometimes weathered wood can reflect it like that.

Hi guys, Sorry for the typo in the title this image was taken in first light, not last light!

The colors look true on my screen. The whites on the owl should look perfectly white if your screen is calibrated correctly. There is a bit of blue on the wet perch (early AM sky reflection) which is natural

    thanks all

Beautiful as always Arash. How do you manage to get so close to these owls? Somehow zig zagging does not work so well in NY. Hats off as usual for a beautiful photo that is superbly processed.

I can't wait to get in front of one of these beautiful owls one day. When I do, I sure hope I can get a frame as nice as this!!
Colors look good over here. Looked a bit cool for evening light. Very nice frame Arash.

Looks good on my monitor. That trip was definitely one of my all-time bird photography highlights!
