We watched this guy make a number of attempts in a pond at Merritt Island NWR, in late afternoon light one day last month. Here, he stayed suspended for awhile and finally made a lunge... (see next pane).

He lost his footing, and plunged into the pool, disappearing completely under the water.....

...and then finally reemerged, with a tiny morsel for his efforts.

Immediately put a smile on my face remembering this moment. Quite accurate considering the loss of footing. Very nice sequence captured. Great light and dark BG.

Bill this is really entertaining and great photography, I think it would have gone exceptionally well in the Story Sequences forum too.
Focus is spot on colours are really good, I love the contrast too

The more I look at this, the more I like the 2nd post best. Love how you caught the eye just before it was submerged.

Echoing everyone else here but great sequence. The second one with the hint of eye is also my favorite. Love how the bird pops against the BG

Great series. I like both of the first two images and it's hard to pick one but I think I'm in agreement on the second one. Catching the eye just before it went under was perfect timing.

The first frame is simply awesome Bill and I love the pose and the details all set up with that dark background. The rest of the frames tell the story nicely. Great job
