Thank you for all your C&C's on my previous post .
Just before the time runs out for this months theme , thought i would add another image to it .
Got this pair of Jackal's fighting over a kill of some kind of deer or antelope's little one at the Mara. One of them eventually got the whole piece but to its surprise a tawny eagle came out of nowhere and tried to snatch the meal from the jackals mouth , I was on the 500 f4 and that particular moment where the eagle is snatching the kill from Jackal's mouth was lost because i was not able to focus them as they got very close for the 500mm, but one of my friend on a 300mm was able to get that moment. I still regret that lost opportunity but happy for my friend to capture the scene.
DPP 4.5, CS6, WB,Levels, curves, saturation, selective colour, cloned out couple of grass blades in front of two Jackals , Sharpening ,cropped from top and bottom of the frame and slightly from RHS and LHS as well .
Thank You Andreas for the Picture Style for DPP .
Canon 5D MK III, Canon 500mm f4 IS II , Bean Bag.
1/5000 sec; f/8; ISO 2000.
All your C&C's are most welcome .

Hi Haseeb - Good action but something seems amiss in the pp here. The image feels a bit flat and muted without a lot of fine detail. How much of a crop is this? Again, while there was clearly action here, I don't think you needed 1/5000 or f8 at this distance. You could have dropped all the settings, including ISO. It's worth re-processing if the IQ is there.
Thank you Rachel , here is an RP with some more punch . And yes i agree techs could have been better. Cropped a bit from the top but not much from remaining three sides but in totality could be between 30% - 40% of the image .
WDYT ?

I am delighted you managed to capture those chaps in a tug of war situation! And I absolutely love the expression from the fellow on the right side of the frame.
IMHO the last RP is better in terms of composition as well as processing, but just take care with adjustments as they should be applied carefully and selectively. I am referring to the white area on the chest of the jackal (RHS) which is now perhaps too bright, and the black fur on the back of the LHS jackal that looks a bit chocked.
Blackjacked jackals are awesome subjects to photograph - so entertaining! Sorry you missed the action there with the Tawny, do you mind to ask your friend to join us here on BPN and share his capture? I would love to see. The Tawny is well known for this "thieving" capabilities - I saw one snatching a dove from a Lanner Falcon some time ago. I think the species hardly ever catch their own prey, they just take it from someone else, LOL. Oh well, a bit like the jackals themselves:)
A pleasure to view, hope you have more to share from your Mara trip!
Thank you Gabriela -- He ( My friend ) just loves to photograph in the wild but hates to spend time behind the computer to evaluate his images and process them .
I would share some more images of these lovely jackals .
