Default Osprey swing and a miss

    Hi all,

Another osprey shot. In post, I cropped about 25% off and then did some levels adjustment and sharpening. The light wasn't great, so I've tried to make the image less contrasty, but maybe needs less still. I'm also not sure if I need more sharpening here? I always go back and forth on that...

    Camera: Nikon D500
    Lens: 200-500mm f/5.6 at 500mm
    Specs: 1/2500 ISO 1,100 f/5.6

    Thanks for looking!

Hi Alex Well captured I love the eye contact. I also like the reeds in the BG. Good detail on the bird and a nice flight pose. I am like you, go back and forth with the sharpening, I think the amount of sharpening 'fits' the image here.

Nice flight action, and great head-on look. Certainly doesn't look oversharpened on my monitor.

Good call reducing the contrast. I like the wet dangling legs, "V" shape of the wings, and look of misery in missing the fish. Sharpening looks fine to me. A couple of the horizontal grasses above are unfortunate, but expected. You could try to remove them if that is within your personal processing ethics.
