    Default Barn Owl

I've been going through my photos from Utah this winter and I'm amazed at how many good photos I didn't process the first time around. Bird photography has been pretty lean in Albuquerque this summer, so I've been going through old files instead. Here's a barn owl photographed in the fading light on a pretty cold day.

Canon 1D Mark III, 1000mm, f/10, 1/2500, ISO 800, manual exposure, no flash, tripod

You must have had many great images if you left this one out and am glad you discovered it. Great light pose, details and BG.

I had a really busy winter and spring photographically speaking. I shot 8,000 to 10,000 frames in Utah, and then a couple of weeks later shot another 10,000 frames in Costa Rica. As I do not do this professionally, it was tough to find the time to go through all of the photos and process the good ones. But I'm getting to it now. :)

    Doug
I'd give anything to just see a Barn Owl in the wild....much less get an awesome image such as this. I have a suggestion to help you.....just send me all your Barn Owl "rejects".......you'll never have to view them again!!!!

What a nice find in your files, Doug. Love the wing position and the catch in his or her eye. Here's one tiny thought, almost too small to mention. I spent a good amount of time with some short eared owls this winter here on LI and I found that their beaks tend to get lost in the fuzz around their faces when photographed in profile, so I would take my burn tool and just ever so slightly outline the edges just to give a bit of definition. Again, just a thought and you probably have a better way to do this. Love it as posted.

Excellent Doug! I love revisiting unprocessed images from my files once in a while...and almost always find a gem or two that I hadn't touched :-)

Absolutely outstanding Doug. This just pops from the BG, and so pin sharp too. The detail in this is amazing. Very well captured.

Wonderful image Doug. Love how the BG compliments the Owl. I've yet to see one of these guys, even in captivity!

I'll trade you a Barn Owl for a Snowy or a Northern Hawk Owl Jody! ;)
