    Default Lazy Zambezi Afternoon

Hi folks. Back from a short break with the family to the KZN South Coast.
Thought I'd drop right in with a post for the theme.

Captured last year on my Mana Pools photo safari, where my guests and I enjoyed spending most of the afternoon sitting on the opposite back across a small stream in the Zambezi riverbed, watching a family of elephants feeding and drinking as the sun set.

This photo was captured well after the sun set behind the mountains, and I sought to preserve the "blue hour" feel we experienced in those moments.

    Techs:
    Nikon D3s
    Nikkor 70-200mm f2.8 VR-II @ 85mm
    f6.3 | 1/1000 SS | ISO-3200

Hi Morkel - This works quite well. I really like the placement of the ele in the water in the frame and the mountains in the bg add a great bit. This could have fit last month's theme too. I understand what your intentions are about the blue hour but I would still reduce the cyans/blue just in the water a bit if it were mine.

    TFS,
    Rachel

As you know your photography never ceases to astound me ! This photograph perfectly depicts what you have described. Being able to capture a mood/moment so accurately with a still image must be the ultimate goal of a photographer imo. There is sooo much mood in this image ! I do however agree with Rachel that the reflection of the mountain is too blue. If you could alter just that section of the water I think it would complete the image

Hi Morkel -- what a fine capture and you have reproduced the moment quite well . I like the composition and the mountains in the BG are a great addition to this frame , the colours also works for me . TFS !

Thanks for the comments, folks. I kind of disagree on removing the blue from the water. If the mountain looked blue, appears blue here, shouldn't the reflection also be "true" to what is portrayed in the scene??

Hey Morkel - I def agree that if 'the scene' portrays something - that that is how it should look in an image. I think of some of those hard to believe orange scenes from KTP. However my first thought when viewing this was wow beautiful however the blue of the reflection of the mountain in the water looks a touch too blue. Just the mountains reflection - not the rest of the water. However when looking again now it looks ok.
