    Default American Avocet Feeding

    Attached Images Attached Images

The American Avocet is one of my favorite birds to photograph, this was taken in the Spring when they are in full breeding plumage. They feed by walking through the shallow water and continually sweeping their beaks back and forth looking for food.

    Thanks for looking, Kirk

love the low angle, sharp details with excellent exposure and details, the water film adds more interest. my only suggestion is to add more room, especially for virtual feet

Kirk, Excellent shot, nice low angle and the pano crop works for me. I see where Arash's view of the "virtual room" for the feet could come into play,
but with this comp. it doesn't bother me at all.

That water over the neck is awesome. Like everything about this.

I like this, I think all the comments are spot on. I am with Arash regarding adding canvas for virtual feet. Thank you for sharing, Kirk.

Fab looking frame. Yes, to the virtual feet, but all else looks real good. The BG/FG colours really bring out the beautiful colours and detail on the bird. Love the water on the neck. Well done Kirk

    Very nice

This looks really good! Great low angle - and with that very low angle I feel the needed room for the virtual feet is not as critical, so I am fine with it as is. I love the water action at the bill as well as around the neck, and the overall colours are quite appealing. Nicely done.

This is beautiful. The pose, sharpness and exposure are all top notch. And topped off by that creamy background. Really great work Kirk!

Gotta love a breeding colored Avocet and especially at this low POV. Great job on this one and I really like the frozen water and the nice colorful BG. Well done Kirk

Nice shot, really like the water coming off the neck. I could probably go either way as far as adding room below, it doesn't bother me at all as is though.

Thanks so much for all of the very thoughtful words everyone, I really appreciate it.

Arash (and others) with regard to the extra room for virtual feet, I appreciate the suggestion and will explore some comps as suggested. My thinking on the composition was because I'm not a big fan of reflections in most cases, so I tend to minimize them as much as possible. Thanks again for the feedback.

Great picture, nice deep shooting position in front of a perfect background.
