This was taken last August when the shorebirds are on their migration to the coast. They hit the reserviors around here which get drawn down for irrigation, exposing mud flats. This was taken from a kayak. Canon Xti, 400mm f5.6 lens.

The angle and light are great as is the pose. It could go a bit brighter and I would put the bird further to the left in the frame. You could clone out the swimming feather and apply a tad CCW rotation. Keep them coming!

Dave, I love the light. I agree with Axel. I attempted to execute some of his recommendations plus some noise reduction. I ran the image through Noise Ninja, selecting the BG only (masked the bird) to reduce the BG noise. Then I applied a linear curve layer to boost the contrast a bit. Next, I did a bunch of cloning and spot healing on the white stuff that distracts the eye (floating feather, etc). Finally, I noticed that you had posted the image at a small size (you can post at 200kb, 800x800) so I saved the repost at a larger size to see if it made much difference and it didn't but I think that if you were to have posted it at the larger size it would have.
    What do you think?

Good re post Dan Did get rid of some issues

Tried taking a little further, first used shadow highlight which helped a little then curves which made a huge difference. Also cropped a little of the reflection, still has enough and improves proportion. This part is all personal taste. Good work from the boat !!!

btw you did not list the exp comp but seems it was a little under

Great base image and lovely soft light. Definitely improved by cleaning up the white stuff in the water and I totally agree with Alfred's cropping from the bottom. I'm wondering if Alfred's brightening of the image may be just a tad too much? The image appears to have lost some of the moodiness which I like so much.

Agree with Sean - I think that this is too bright now - loved the original soft colours. Prefer the image with the bottom cropped off.
