I thought I would start us off for February's Theme - Multiple Animals of the Same Species. Taken in Tswalu Game Reserve, South Africa.

    Canon 5D3
    70-200 II @ 200mm
    1/125
    f6.7
    ISO 800
HH while sitting on the ground, slight crop for comp, levels, curves, sharpened in PSCC.

    C&C welcome and appreciated. Thanks,

    Rachel

    Hi Rachel, nice encounter.

Framing wise I feel more to the LHS and less to the right, no idea how much of a crop, but if this was FF moving the whole frame to the left, having the FP more in the centre (and expanded) would provided a greater accuracy, especially at 1/125 HH. I feel you could have raised the DoF and SS, more so the SS as these guys move instantly and at 1/125 I just think it's way too low, especially as you had the 5D, but good call on the lens.

The image has a lot more content within it and getting more out will add more tonal depth and 'layering' depth IMHO, it needs more structure overall. I would suggest a 10x16, loosing some from the foot, still retaining the FG grass as it provides the perspective of looking through???

    TFS

Awesome scene of an animal that i think has sooo much photographic potential !! IMHO Steves RP has better colour and cropping some of the foreground grass improves the image. However again IMHO i would place the subjects more to the right of the frame as i feel more of the subjects are looking left and giving them space to look into is what I would do

Too cute! Quite the family. In this case I'm OK with some of the individuals turned away from us. Good sense of habitat, but I agree with taking some off the bottom, probably even more than Steve did. Bummer the little one at right moved its head to cause some blur. Very entertaining photo!

Thanks all for the comments and suggestions. Yes, I would have preferred more room to the left but my recollection is that there was something there which led me to shoot the way I did. It may have been one of the rangers which is why they were looking there too.

    Thanks again,
    Rachel

    Nice grouping here, Rachel.
Red tones consistent with shooting in overcast light in that area. I do like what Steve did re crop and tonality though.
I might crop more square and have the clan smack in the middle?

Rachel I think Steve's repost as lifted this a bit,I do like the way you have caught this group and even though some are looking in the wrong direction it really works for me,love the way there seems to be eyes to cover every angle.

Nice family portrait Rachel...I too like what Steve did to the image in his repost as it brings out a bit more detail in the sandy mound that they are perched on...nice work!
