Default Northern Shoveler Flashes Some Color

I spent last week in Southern California in a few different photography locations. We had rain for several days but got some sunshine on my last morning there, so I went out for a quick shoot. This Shoveler drake gave me a nice look in some glorious sunshine.

That's just about the perfect Shoveler flight image, in my book. Shows his gorgeous colors to full advantage.

Hi Doug, yep, its all about the light. You certainly nailed the flight pose showing the full down stroke of the near wing. Overall, tack sharp, well exposed, and the colours show up nicely. Only one droplet.

Thanks Stu. I thought about cloning a few extra water droplets into the frame but I was getting a cramp in my hand and decided to leave it as is.

Man, you sure had a good trip even though it was a rainy week out here. Saturday morning was a break in the rain and you got another killer duck IF frame. Love the pose and the beautiful lit speculums. Great details and Perfect exposer with nice clean whites. Well done Buddy

Killer flight pose on this stunning drake, and the colors just pop. As we agreed, it only takes one good bird.

This is a really striking image - the colours pop without blowing out.
