This juvenile White-faced Heron and its sibling were recently fledged and feeding independently on insects in grasses, still with a parent not too far away. At this inexperienced stage the young birds were quite unafraid and feeding within metres of the usual regularly passing humans in this reserve. It does seem a shame that their wariness of us apparently develops with experience!
Technical note: Initially I thought I may have goofed in not setting the lens aperture wide open which would have created a softer background. However I think the result I got, with some detail still present in the lakeside grasses behind the bird, is more suggestive of the local environment.

Reason: Clarifying crop info
Excellent davis super details and exposure. The tip of the bill isn't quite so sharp but still pretty good.
I l ike the nbackground - I wonder though if a little desaturation would work - it may reduce contrast a little and also reduce the impression that the sticky out feathers on the RHS have a green cast.
