This is one from yesterday morning when we had some decent light in Scotland. The Eider are returning to the local harbour for the winter months, as are the Goldeneye. I always find, unless the weather is good light, its a waste of time spending it with the Eiders, as I find it difficult to 'show the eye' as it is the same colour as the very small, smooth head feathers. I got some good light yesterday and spent a few hours with them. I found it easier to get closer to the Eider, rather than the Goldeneye, who were very aware, even though I was hidden.

The little look back makes this shot, and the wings are in a nice position. Nice work in good light

Glad you got some light on your subject as it makes all the difference, especially with color. Cool wing flap pose and you have nice details in both the darks and lights. Great that we can see that all important eye and catch on this black caped subject. Well done William

Great wing flap, William. Nice of the weather to cooperate, and give you a good look at the eye. Like that you've managed get wonderful views of all the subtle feather tonal ranges. Very well captured.

I love wing flap shots of waterfowl and this is no exception. Very nice, sharp and well exposed. I wish the head had a slight turn towards us. I would also clone out the dark patch at the top right of the frame and would try and darken the light area above the bird.

Nice wing flap, beautiful bird. Happy you got some light on this bird, normally here I have the opposite problem. Thank you for sharing, Will.
