We were both caught by surprise as this female came around the corner and landed not too far from me. As you can see from the eye, she spotted me hiding in the snow as she landed, and basically spooked off right after.

Canon 7DII + 500mm f/4 II + 1.4TC, manual exposure, evaluative metering, 1/2000s., f/5.6, ISO 800, natural light, handheld, cropped for composition. darkened some of the brighter areas in the water.

I like the composition, sharpness, details, wing blur, exposure and wide open landing gear. Excellent image Daniel!

Love this Dan. So envious. These are birds that I most times can't get to within a mile of before they fly. Agree with all that Jim said. We don't have any frozen water yet really so all of the waterfowl here are still very far off.

Great Image. These are really difficult to get close to. Nice wing position and head angle.

Thank you for sharing the image.

Nice image and great quick reflexes. A very spooky bird indeed; one that continues to elude me.

Nice capture of a duck we seldom see in our area. Happy New Year

    This made me smile!
Fun pose and I love the surprised look.
The position of the feet is great.
I might be tempted to smooth out the whitish circle in the water above the bird.
    Well done,
    gail
