I was fortunate to spend last week in the Kgalagadi Transfrontier Park with a couple of photographers, and enjoyed every moment . The photography was great - as always. This juvenile Southern Pale Chanting Goshawk offered a an opportunity as it took off against the background of yellow dune grass in the the golden late afternoon light of the Kgalagadi desert.

Very cool capture. I like the light, details, BG and the take off pose, it is just a bit tight in the frame for my taste.

While I see Axel's point, I like this crop because it maximizes the bird in the frame; it lets you show off all the great detail you captured in the photo. Just a matter of taste. I think it's an excellent photo! Thanks for posting!

Excelent image all around Chris. I agree with Axel and I think that some more room at the left would improve the composition.

Mind blowing image. Love the way the single leg is giving the last bit of thrust to propel itself. Excellent details in the wings & nice light there. Just wish it was a horizontal crop with room in front of the raptor.

Incredible detail, pose and BG... I too love the leg pushing off the perch as you can feel the tension and energy. I can see the point about more room... Still... It's hard to image this being any better than it already is.

    WOW!
