    Hi folks ,
this Grey Seal pup was nibbling on the base of an algae , just to have fun and play around .
One beach of helgoland was covered with that algeas up to a meter high , at the waters edge .A lot of the Seals were lying in those mountains of algeas , for having a rest .
This little guy came over the top and started to play with the base of that sort of Kelp .Was a lot of fun to watch him/ her playing .

    Canon EOS 1Dx MK II
EF 200-400 IS L with TC engaged ( 560 mm)
    Tripod

    F 6,3 ; Iso 16.000 ; 1/1600 sec ; man Exp.

Processed with Capture One Pro 10 and PS CC 2017; cropped for comp from all sides slightly .

Thanks for watching and commenting to my previous thread .

Wish you ALL a Merry Xmas .

Merry X-mas Andreas ! I like the the moment , appears as chewing a piece of bone on the first look . Amusing expression which makes it look cute. IQ looks good for such a high ISO. I would like to have a hint more of sharpening on its face .

    TFS !

Hi Andreas- Merry Christmas! Another cute image with interesting behavior. The comp works quite well here. Again, excellent IQ at this size with the high ISO. Nice tones and colors. Nice one.

    TFS,
    Rachel

Hi Andreas, like the low PoV and the position in frame. I think f/8 might have been better, even with the techs. There is more depth from the kelp he/she is eating if you back off on some of the colours. Wrestling a little on the yellow . I might loose just a fraction/sliver off the foot to have an even, dark edge.

C1 - It's OK, there is better and it will give you greater results, albeit far more complicated in it's 'architecture' and where a lot would get horribly lost within, but I don't think it's as 'rounded' as LR . Hate the set up and import!!!

Good to see he's eating his greens....or should that be his browns

Nice soft light and comp here Andreas, although being on a tripod you could have easily lowered your S/S + ISO and increased your DOF here, but a lot to like here nonetheless.

A Merry Xmas to you as well Andreas.

    TFS

Thank you Haseeb, Rachel and Steve for your comments as always much appreciated .
Steve i agree with you about the kelp ... and i also think more DOF would not have hurt the image . I just forgot to play with the F stop during shooting .... as there was plant of time to experiment . This little guy was playing for a longer time with that kelp .... i left the scene when others chimed in and made a lot of noise by discussing which settings they are shooting with . Before i was alone with the little chap .But i forgot to try different stuff .
C1 .... well just playing with it ...but i did agree with you regarding architecture , import and set up .But for me the endgame counts .... and i accept a rather clunky workflow if the final output does fit my needs . I just wanted to see the difference in noise / dynamic range compared to DPP, the good thing is that C1 offers a linear tone curve to start with .
Just forgot that i do think that you are right with the cleaner foot of the image , again i knew that you would come up with this !!!

    Cheers Andreas

Thanks Marc for your comment , much appreciated .

Regarding your thoughts re SS , i have to disagree , as this little was constantly moving albeit slow i kept the SS high to avoid motion blur .

Understand Andreas, but even @ 1/1000s would have given you a little more latitude. We'll agree to disagree I think.

    Dear Andreas,

Lovely capture of this velvety fellow munching on Kelpy veggies:)

I like the framing and especially curvature of the FG, agree with Steve you could take off one tiny bit for that "cleaner" look.

Those rich colours and tones are superb. Nice and sharp where it counts. I really think your techs were spot on, under those circumstances you described.
And yes, a tad more DOF would have been nice, but how far are you prepared to go with ISO...I am happy with this as presented Boetie, wonderful work

Merry Christmas to you and Andrea, let us FaceTime again in the New Year:)

    Kind regards,
    Gabriela Plesea

This has so much going for it! Cute factor, low POV, expert exposure and handling of the high ISO file.
    Belated Merry Christmas Andreas!
I agree that it can lose some space off the bottom.
