Here is an image that was taken in Florida a couple of weeks ago. This fish was weighing the Heron down pretty good. All C&Cs are welcome and appreciated.

That's a beauty, Jim. It is amazing how big a fish these heron's can eat. Nice colors, detail, and composition. Thank you for sharing.

P.S. Ft. Desoto? If I remember correctly there was some bad weather when you were to be here.

Thanks Joe. A cold front moved through the day after we got there which wasn't too bad. It was the sea fog that rolled in on and off for three days that wasn't good for picture clarity. This was taken on a semi foggy morning at St. Pete Beach near Blind Pass. We missed a snow storm while we were gone and a bad day in Florida beats most days up here in the winter. You are in a beautiful place down there!

A nice capture, Jim. The Heron looks surprised at what he's caught.

Great catch. Although unfortunate for the fish, I love the streak of blood running down it. I also like the rounded neck pushing up against the inside of the heron's mouth. Did the fish eventually go down the hatch or did the heron give up?

Thanks Daniel. It went down the hatch and I took pics until it was down the throat but this was my favorite frame.

A whopper Jim, i like the "shish-ka-bob" spearing from this GBH, and i like the open mouth/tongue of the heron! Wow, must have been something to watch! Well done.

This is just amazing Jim, Terrific detail and an overall superb behavioural capture. This looks like the kind of fish that would eat a bird given half a chance, I bet this turn of events is the last thing the fish expected, cheers.

Great shot Jim. I'm glad you were able to come away with such an excellent picture given the conditions. With the cold and wind I basically struck out.

  12. Thanks Jim Crosswell thanked for this post
