John your position, and framing are just cracking here.the bison is straight up the focus but it's how the river leads the eye through from bottom left too top right that wows me mate. I really like this john really beautifully framed !! It's not just a portrait it's more Bit of gold here for me . Cor you had a good trip

    take care

Hi Jon - I'm glad you posted it! A beautiful bison-scape with the river flowing through and some frost. If it were mine I might boost the midtones on the bison slightly and also remove the blues from the blacks on the bison. Overall, an image I would be very happy to have in my portfolio from YNP.

    TFS,
    Rachel

Hi Jon -- This is a beautiful image . I liked the way you have included the habitat and at the same time keeping the Bison dominant as well . Very nicely done .

    TFS !

Hi Jon agree that this is a nice Bison scape .
Like the comp , contrasting colors and the flow of the river .Well positioned subject in the frame and the coat looks very good with lots of fine detail . Agree with Rachel regarding the blues.
A minor thing is the grass in the FG , i would drop the output sharpening on the grass .
Have you used the panel i send you ? Are you getting along with it ?

Jon I think that the fact you have included the habitat of this animal makes it for me,that's a magnificent animal well photographed.

Hi Jon, nicely framed and I like the backdrop, puts things in context.

I think it would make more sense if you put the Focal distance in terms of - between you and the subject i.e. 10m rather than 100mm.

I see what you mean Steve having said that the focal length used was 100mm, I guess I could find the actual distance in exif.

Yep, it's there if you access DPP or ACR, no problem.

BTW Jon, I'm OK on the blacks and overall colour of the coat, all looks good to me, just need to address the water I think and the grass looks a bit too sharp, just selectively back that off as the sharpening will key onto the highlights far more.

Thanks Steve yes now you mention it I agree entirely. I did a burn layer on the grass prior to sharpening but as you say it holds many highlights and it does look oversharpened - must remember for future posts.

Hi Andreas yes I have tried the panel I have to admit I found it a bit long winded, there are several parameters that can be optimised and I will have another try with it. (I have been a bit short of patience the last few weeks due to the fact that I have had a respiratory tract infection). Enough excuses I will try it again. You and Rachel have a much keener eye than I do regarding the blues, I genuinely thought I had removed them, if I look long enough I think I can sense some remaining blue in the very darkest areas.
