A nice close-up with great detail - the blurring on the eyelids suggests a slow-ish shutter speed so maybe you could have raised the ISO a bit? The portrait is so tight in that I don't find the wall behind too distracting

I believe it is a red colobus monkey.

Looks a like a red colobus to me Keith. Was this a big crop? I ask becasue I sens a little graininess creeping in.
I would suggest making a layer mask and softening the background to reduce the contrast, the stripes could be disguised a bit perhaps.

Thanks Mike and Jon.Jon you are right I think I might have posted the wrong one but it never was all that good ,Think I was busy trying to work out what this chap was thinking and that expressive face to really critique my post.
I will give you a call if that's ok.

Hi Keith - It certainly fits the theme. Nice control of the exp and good detail. There's a big difference in color between the two posts with a fairly heavy red cast to the rp. The rp took care of the graininess/noise that Jon pointed out.

Hi Keith -- Lovely looking subject , liked the meditating expression on its face . Yes there is a marked difference in colours between your OP and RP not sure which i prefer , rather your RP i guess and that noisy look is taken care of in your RP .TFS !

Hi Keith, I would go tighter in, but the RP looks better, although the sharpening might be on the cusp of being a hint too much IMHO? Adding a little Luminosity layer helps on the brighter areas on the facial bone structure. I also rotated it a wee fraction in relation to the slope line of the wall.

Hi Keith ... he does look funny , might come because of the upper lid movement . Looks a bit drunk .... hahahah ! Funny expression in the face .
Like the portrait even if the BG is not ideal , OP works for me in terms of tone and color . Just wondering where all the noise is coming from with the D4 ...? At 500 Iso

Thanks Rachel,Haseeb,Steve maybe should have asked for a bit of advice before posting this,Andreas would say the noise is down to me rather than the camera.

Thanks for the tips and help much appreciated.

I would sadly have to agree here Keith, but as you are aware now, it's a positive rather than a negative.

    A cool character.
    Repost is an improvement IMHO.
Now the real question - what the actual Frick were you doing in The Gambia? Birding I presume?

Morker have got over my fit of laughter from your comment so I will try to be serious.

I had a few years going to the Gambia after finding a good hotel which had gardens that was full of birds and a very knowledgeable local that taught me a lot about birds of Africa, unfortunately it is now turned into a very tourist sort of place with instead of gardens that were kept with birds in mind it is all manicured with hardly any birds .We have stopped going now which pleases my wife no end she said on getting onto the plane to fly home on our first visit that she would never go again ever and under any circumstances to ask her after been hassled day and night and really did make her point, anyway I did manage another 4 trips before the place went to pot .Have paid the price since with her being in a better bargaining position with what she put up with.
We have since been to South Africa and done the tourist route from Cape town which she really loved ,so perhaps this is the way to go hopefully as my health improves.
