A very cooperative male American Wigeon was present recently, hanging out with the usual Mallards. After taking the prerequisite frames, and then opted to get some "long lens macro" images of its' stunning plumage patterns and lines.
Canon 7DII + 500mm f/4 II + 1.4TC III, manual exposure, evaluative metering, 1/400s., f/9, ISO 1600, natural light handheld, small crop top and right to minimize the loss of dof there (in hindsight I could have closed down a stop more). A few specks removed via Spot Removal tool.
Dan really like the way the different color feathers have that weaved together appearance going up the middle. I would think taking a little off the left side or cloning the single white feather would make it even stronger.
