These 2 old girls did themselves proud this late afternoon by bringing down this adult female giraffe all by themselves.

We estimated both their ages to be easily over 12 years and possibly close to 15, due to both their set of canines reduced to mere pegs, quite a feat for any pair in their prime, let alone two mature girls.

We missed the take down unfortunately, but this event was witnessed by another camp who saw the whole event take place, they were hiding under a rock ledge on the dry riverbed and startled both a zebra (which eluded them) and giraffe

which initially got bogged down in the sand enabling the pair to pounce. But of course, the pride male came along and muscled in on the kill, but soon all 3 dined together under a candle-lit sky.

Just love the D810's ability to extract highlight, mid's and shadow detail like no other camera IMO, no need to bracket your images when you have this baby in your hands, the files are such a pleasure to process.

Hi Marc a very nice wide angle shot of the this scene , good choice as mostly we see close ups of that action .
Stunning sky and i like the colors and the placement of the subjects gives a nice depth in the image .On my screen the image appears a bit dark and the blacks are a little bit heavy from my POV , you might see this differently .
    Nice one ...

Hi Marc - Nice choice of dof and I too like the wide shot. The sky looks very good. I too think the fg and lions look a bit dark. Keep them coming.

    TFS,
    Rachel

Lovely wide-angle view here, and good call on the composition and placement of the elements Marc.
I agree, the D800/D810 sensor is an amazing piece of tech, can't wait to see what they do with the upgrade as well.
Ditto on lightening the FG and lions a tad? Sky is well controlled and overall luminosity very natural.

If they put the D5/D500 AF module and increase the FPS to say 8 (possibly with grip) without extra MP, I'll be very happy Realistically though it's likely to be more MP and less/little change in FPS

In any case, it's my go to for scapes.

HI Marc -- A special scene indeed , and credit to you for going wide and including the sky and the surroundings, I loved the feel in this image . I also find it a bit dark ( especially the FG ) .

    TFS !

Super image well composed, love the sky but the foreground and subjects a little underexposed and flat.
