Took this image last month in Cape May. These characters were in abundance, but quick is an understatement, as you only have a split second to capture and hope you get a decent image. This one launched in search of a better branch for dining. C&C welcome.

    D4S, Nikon 500mm + 1.4 TC, 1/2500s, f 5.6, ISO 3200, Gitzo tripod, Wimberley Gimbal head.

Geoffrey give yourself a big pat on the back for capturing this fine shot, tiny little bird with a lot of movement and for my eyes nearly all in focus even the feet are not far out, colur and feather detail look spot on,very well done.

That's pretty amazing. You caught him in mid-rotation, with his feet still up and body twisted. Nicely done.

Agree that it is cool that you got it mid take off. Not easy for such little speedsters. Pretty good for such a high ISO. I would not even attempt that with my camera. I'm not crazy about the body of the bird and only the 1 spread wing. Also the feather detail while good for such a high ISO is a bit lacking on the top of the head and especially the brighter exposed part of the chest. The spread wing and some of the background would benefit from some noise reduction as well.

the ISO is not that high for the camera used, my guess is the RAW wasn't quite sharp and too much sharpening and NR has had detrimental impact on IQ. I like the spread wing but I wish there was more separation with the BG

I like this one, including the natural background, and the out of shape bird- it's snapshot of what they do.
