Default Daylight burning in on the rocks

Lucky enough to have a good concentration of eagles spend each fall fishing below a **** about 5 minutes from home. Instead of getting the regular flyby shots everyone else there gets I decided to get a kayak and get a little more aggressive by going to the birds when water conditions permit. Canon 7DII 100-400II + 1.4 extender handheld from kayak. ISO 1600 f8 @ 320sec. RAW converted in DPP small amount of neat NR run on the bird and a couple rounds on the BG resized and sharpened in PS. Thanks for looking

Thats a beautiful scene Joe. Well worth the effort mate. No nits from me, on this one. Love it. Great POV, fantastic colours throughout. I like the light direction, and the head angle.

    Well done and TFS

What an evocative shot, and a great idea to go waterborne. Great pose from the foreground bird, and I love the hint of his cousin in the background. And the atmospheric quality. I feel there may be even more you could pull out of this, but I'm not sure what it is. Maybe someone else will have a suggestion. But I love it as presented.

love the mist and your composition Joe, I like your plan and execution too. My only wish is that the sun was behind you and the eagle doesn't look as sharp as it should be to my eyes. Not sure if it is from the early AM shimmers but generally, the 7D2 somewhat struggles with a TC added to a zoom lens. Now that you have the 5D4 I recommend getting rid of the 7D2, the quality will be so much better with the 5D4. I was going to suggest pulling the shadows a bit but again with the 7d2 and ISO1600 it will become very noisy

    Thanks guys!

Arash this was the first trip out with camera gear so I took my 7D until I feel a little more comfortable then I'll take the 5D4. Once they open the gates most of this disappears pretty quick as you can see from a drone shot I took this spring. The good part is they sound an alarm 10 minutes before they start to open lol. Been thinking of selling the 7DII and picking up a used 1DX to have a more waterproof backup/primary body to use when I do take the kayak.

Great image Joe! I like the low angle, setting, autumn mood and composition. I'm not usually a fan of OOF birds but in this image it works perfectly

I love the mood, and for me the side lighting really helped with that in this case. Of course you got the correct head angle from the eagle to get that light on its face. Great comp, and the OOF autumn foliage really adds a lot.
