Hi Rachel -- The hump and antlers have a nice rim lighting effect ! Many a times these back-lit images become challenging to expose but you have done exceedingly well here . The forest track in this case is not a deal breaker . Nice image .

I really like this Rachel, the way you have the kudu rim lit is magical. I would suggest it would look even more majestic if you lowered the brightness of the grasses, just the grasses, I have a sneaky feeling it would really pop.

Hi Rachel, I quite like going wider here, with some nice detail coming through on the Kudu, but for me, it doesn't quite meet the brief in terms of 'Backlit', it more an 'Animalscape' for me.

Thanks Haseeb, Jon and Steve for the comments and suggestions. Steve, I think it is both backlit and an animalscape.
Thanks again,
Rachel

Great subject and lighting! Two track not ideal but not terrible. Sky is quite bright and distracts a bit! Like the placement of the Kudu and lifted foot implies action.. Well done Rachel!

Rachel thanks for the words elsewhere leading here and of course this glorious shot!! The double foot lift ,(it's almost like there is a spring in his stride) immediately grabbed me Rache. I love the long shadows I too feel the grasses could be pulled back,if one could do that separately to the rim light of your big old guy,it feels he would almost jump out at one(I'm sure you can in PS,but knowing is different). The track interests me,normally I don't care much for this type of thing, but in this case it leads my eye into the image ,so it interests me. The sky is very bright which but feels unavoidable for me at this stage, but i'm so drawn to the lower half of the image that is isn't really a botherance.
It's lovely Rache , I haven't been to Africa,I know nothing, but this makes me feel Africa. Sort of strange, because one would muse that a lion or similar ele rhino etc might convey that feeling more ,this light is part of that emotional responce.
take care
Stu
