This is another from my hide on the loch side. Ever since I put feeders up on a small tree over hanging the loch, I have been bombarded with woodland birds including this pheasant. He climbed the tree in an attempt to get to the feeders which allowed me to get this POV.

What a striking palette of colors. And good and sharp around the face where it matters. I could imagine a version that crops a bit off the right, to just before the neck plumage.

For me Will it needed more SS & a greater DoF, it's a 1DX, push it as I just feel you are being too safe. Is this a crop, large or small??

Interesting capture, William. I like the looking down pose and of course the amazing colors including the iridescent feathers. Very nice BG too.

Very small crop Steve. I was that close I couldn't get the whole bird in focus. I thought this DOF and crop would exaggerate the head detail.

I know where you are coming from. Most of my best images at this location have been ISO3200. I get about an hour of early light, then it is shaded for most of the day. I feel safe doing ISO 3200 at above 1/800. I feel I need to stay on f/6.3 as I am so close.

Will, feeling safe may loose you that capture, 1DX(s) are/were designed so you could 'push' the boundaries, you are there to drive IT, not the other way round unlike older bodies. As I have said many times before, what do you have to loose??? Dealing with any noise issues is so easy these days with with DPP and Arash/Arties guide, or LR/PSCC 2015.5.

I feel I need to stay on f/6.3 as I am so close.
Why??? How close are you, you can find that in the EXIF data.

Hi Will, what an unusual pose, and what striking colours on this fellow. Good detail and sharpness on the head, and it pops so well against the lighter BG.
