The busy BG isn't bad, but I'd like to see the shadowed side of the bittern a little brighter and a little room on the bottom for the virtual left leg.

    Good idea.

Nice find and pose. It is too tight in the frame for my taste. I think a little postprocessing would help, such as sharpening and S/H. :) It would have been great if you could have gotten the sunlit side of the bird

it's hard to constructively comment without knowing details, but to add to axel's statement of the lighting, I'd wish there were more room for the feet (if even virtual).

I agree with the gang on all points. I would like him also a little more to the left in the frame.

I like it but really need to add that you really cut off the real feet and this is not really a good practice.

    later and love, artie

ps: images that come out of a digital camera exhibit washed out colors and need to be sharpened, in other words, properly optimized images are not only really real but they are really better than what comes out of the camera. What comes out of the camera is your digital negative. Really!

Quite rare to get a full shot of a bittern so well done there. However, one has to agree with the expert comments. I would have liked the bird to be somewhat brighter.

On this shot I was faced with a compromise the bird was standing in fallen brush so his left foot was buried
and trying to shoot lying on the ground (per lots of advice on this site) you will often have this problem unless
your suspect is standing on a hard surface and since this is one of the hardest species to photograph I've faced, I took
the shot I had available. I'm gonna put another shot of this one up different viewpoint tomorrow
