The dark morph of the Eastern Reef Egret. The whole bird was full frame.

Hi Colin, love the light and detail, and with that combo, you cant go wrong with IQ either. Although its large in the frame, I would try an alternate crop by coming up from the bottom and having more space on the RHS. Im basically saying more space all round. Another vote on wishing for a better HA.

Thanks for the comments. There was no way this bird was going to give me a head turn, just too intent on fishing. It was walking along the water's edge and I positioned myself so it would walk right past me, which it did, barely 3 m away. Here's a re-post with a bit more room; needed to add some canvas at the top.

The repost feels better balanced to me, and with more flow and breathing room to take it all in. Yes, to a better head angle, but as you say the subject would have none of it this time around. Did you try pishing (or "kissing") noise? Sometimes all it takes is one or two tries. Anyhow, good colours, and excellent details.
