Default Lizard: It's What's for Dinner!

I was out doing some nighttime Owl photography last summer when a Western Screech-Owl landed on a nearby cactus. I shined my flashlight on the bird, and was surprised to see a huge lizard in its beak! A really cool encounter!

Hi Doug, that's a pretty neat exposure of flashlight, and good sharpness for such a slow ss. I like the placement of the Owl in the frame, the eye contact, and of course, the meal is a bonus - including the blood.

I used a flashlight for focus and an off-camera flash for the actual photo. A friend was holding both flash and flashlight. I used a radio trigger to fire the flash.

Doug, very cool shot, nice and sharp and with prey, plus owls are just plain hard to get.

This is outstanding! Real nice setting and i like the repeating patterns in bird and prey.

Glad the Mods aren't included in the monthly themes contests. This would be a hard one to beat! Awesome frame all the way around and the skilled flash work makes the whole scene pop but not look over flashed. As good as you could have asked for!! I looked at the comp with the cactus on the left removed. Kind of liked it. Well done
